"Driftwood"
Location: San Gregorio State Beach, California.

The rains have just ended in northern California after days and days of wet weather. The blue sky and warm sun is back again. Even though I like rain I was starting to get tired of the wet weather. So today seemed like a perfect day to go out for shooting. Past week was all work and no play for me so I was having an itch to get back to my favorite spots around Half Moon Bay or HMB as they call it here.

I have been avoiding San Gregorio beach because this beach requires an entry fee that I hate to pay. My photographic trips usually start in the afternoon and I allow myself about an hour at the spot. So to pay an entry fee for the whole day when I hardly spend an hour at the beach seems quite unjustified. But today was different. I was very impressed by the quality of light here. So I decided to pay the fee and make the best of it. Things turned out quite satisfactory in the end.

Initially my plan was to frame the image with seagulls as the subjects. I like these seagulls here. As a matter of fact I have also made an image of them at the same spot last year. But then I saw this driftwood and liked the reflections on the sand which made me change my mind. Also the creek that flows here was at its peak flow due to recent rains which further helped to keep the sand wet and maintain the reflections on it. Bit of remaining clouds in the sky were nice to have too. I like the transition between wet and dry weather when light is just perfect and cloud activity is not bad either. I was happy it all happened on a weekend, else if it were a work day I would have hated to let this opportunity go.

Thanks for taking a look. Hope you enjoyed.
